New Fiat Owner! Hello from Northern VA!

Post by radam135 »

Super happy to pick up my 79 spider from Richmond tomorrow! I look forward to learning as much as I can about these great vehicles from this group... My wife and I rented a Fiat spider while on holiday in the Caribbean on our tenth anniversary. I've been searching for the right one ever since. A couple of weeks ago, that opportunity happened on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979- ... aid_winner

Since we just moved to the DC area this summer, does anyone have any recommendations on good mechanics in the area? I intend to do as much work as I can on the car myself, but there's a lot of competing requirements on my time... so...

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome!
The Capitol area is home to one of the largest Fiat clubs in the US. In normal times, we have tech sessions, lunches and club drives. Hopefully we'll be able to resume these in 2021. In the meantime, please visit https://www.dcfiats.org/ and consider joining. There are many resources available in the area, from amateur to pro.

Congratulations on getting your spider! I followed the auction on BaT, and it looks like you secured a great spider. I purchased my '82 in October, 2019, and have already put 2k miles on it--a blast to drive. I live in Annapolis, and there are lots of great roads to drive on both sides of the Potomac!
Definitely join DC Fiats. I suggest buying "Maintaining the Italian Roadster" by Brad Artigue (3rd Edition)--its available on Amazon or Ebay. This is my first Fiat, and the book does an amazing job explaining the car, how it works and how to use all the features.
On mechanic support, I've used London Auto Services in Falls Church, VA (londonautoservices.com)--the owner Nick Vadala is a Fiat enthusiast. More recently I took my spider to Tim Rooney at Tim Rooney's Garage (http://www.timrooneysgarage.com). Tim is an Alfa specialist (he takes care of my Alfa Spider), but was great with the Fiat.
Enjoy driving your new Fiat Spider!

Welcome aboard Adam!
Ditto "join DC Fiats"...lots of events. So fun to see folks' reactions when 15-20 Fiats cruise by on the road. Hopefully next year we can start them up again.

Cheers
