Ordered a new temp sensor to see if that was the problem with my temp gauge, but found there are, not one, but two sensors on the top of the head. A couple of questions....do I need both? Are they the same? The one I have in my car towards the front of the engine has a black top, where as the replacement has a red top and is a bit longer. Any difference? I'm a little new at this, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Temp Sensor
The red one is the sending unit for your coolant temp gauge, the black one is your overheat idiot light.

Thanks. Anyone know what the torque specs on those sensors should be?

Its in the shop manual (I don't have it with me) but you'll find the taper of the thing will get it extremely tight and leave a few threads exposed in some cases. And thats OK. I use teflon tape when installing them and have never checked the torque or had a leak. Tight appears to work fine.

Thanks Brad. That's exactly how I put them in. I looked through both of my manuals but couldn't find the torque specs, but I guess it doesn't matter.
