Black Box Under dash 83 spider europa

Post by evm1024 »

Hi All,

Digging around under my dash I found a (new to me) black box with a lot of small gauge wires coming out of it. I've not traced the wires yet and hove no clue just what it is. It is located near the firewall on the passenger side of the steering shaft.

Anyone know what it is?

The car is an '83 Canadian Spider Europa.

Thanks!

FI ECU?

(edited: Missed that detail, "steering shaft" obviously not the ECU.)

On my 1981 Spider that is mounted on the right side of the pedal box is the oxygen sensor timer/reset box. The harness passes behind the upper console to a connector located above the relay box on the passenger side of the car. It originally had a wire safety seal on the reset cover. to reset the timer cut the wire unscrew the cover and using a small screwdriver or punch press in the button inside to rest the 30K mile timer.

Oxygen sensor/timer sounds like it. Mine also has a wire safety seal (that has been cut).

I did get under the dash and traced the wires as you noted. Over to the relay/ECU area under the glovebox.

I'm switching to twin IDF so this box is not needed.

Thanks!
