I just pulled and rebuilt a Plex style electronic distributor this past weekend. The magnet under the pickup is essential and there is a painted stripe or line indented into one side. The painted line or indent must face down. I set the gap and have always set the gap with a regular metal feeler gauge to .55mm and have never had an issue.

A complete rebuild includes two bearings, an oil seal, and two O-rings. Driving the pin out of the drive gear is the hardest part. The pin is usually driven in from one side with a fattened end. However it's difficult to tell which way just by looking. I spent about 1/2 hour driving the pin out, then flipped it over and another 1/2 hour driving it out breaking a punch in the process.

If you have it, place the O-ring on the base and also a cardboard/fiber gasket.

Yep, thanks, have the parts and O-Rings.

Last steps before filling the cooling system and starting it back up.

When I just rebuilt my old one: the magnet under the pick up had the stripe facing down: like in the videos from IAP.
Now, the new pick up from AR comes with the magnet and states on the instructions to install stripe facing up.
It may depend on where you got your parts. OR I suppose you can reuse the magnetic strip and put back the way it came out
has anyone else used the new pick up from AR to confirm.

thanks
