82 Spider Map light & Emergency Flasher Light not working ?

Post by hifijoes »

Just noticed my map light not working when the doors are closed on my 82 Spider. Dont use it much, but not working when turned on manual with doors closed. When the door is opened ( button released ) it works. Also the emergency flasher lights all work on external lights, but no red indicator inside the car .
Im thinking one or two of the leads is off on back of console or possible bulb is out on emergency flasher inside car.

Anyone else have this issue or know possible solution ?

I have been having a lot of problems accessing this site for the past week. not sure what the problem is.

The courtesy/map light has power applied to it from the "hot all the time circuit. With lights switch in one position the ground for the light is supplied from either door switch. With the lights switch in the other position the ground for the light is supplied by that switches position. If the switch contact corroded from lack of use ot the ground wire for the lights switch is disconnected the light will have power going to it but can't light because there is no ground.

I believe he hazard light in an 82 Spider's hazard switch is powered from the dash light dimmer when the Hazard switch is in the "turn signal" light position and powered from the "hot all the time" circuit when the switch is in the Hazards position. If the light never lights its bulb could be bad, the ground wire for the light may be disconnected from the switch, or the switch could be bad. The red area of the switch unscrews to access the bulb.
