Hi All,
I'm finally getting some traction on my fiat and have a question about mounting an alternator to the left side of the engine block.
The engine block mount is narrow compare to the alternator mount where it is wider. It will still fit fine but you can see at least 2" of the bolt since the engine mount is narrow. Is that normal? Did I even make sense?

Let me back up a step. You have a '69 coupe it looks like, and so which side is the alternator normally mounted on? Are you putting in a 2L engine and looking to move the alternator?

The alternator is on the right side of the engine in my car. The 2L engine alternator is normally on the left side but there is also a mounting bracket on the right side so I'm mounting it there but noticed the right side mounting bracket is narrower than the alternator bracket. Didn't know if there was an adapter or something I should be using.

Ed, this kinda sounds like my situation, in that I put a 2L block in my '69 spider. This was over 30 years ago, but my recollection is that the original alternator bottom bracket fit onto the 2L block in the same location as with the 1438 cc engine (passenger side).
After reading your post again, I vaguely recall that part of the alternator bottom mounting bolt is exposed, so this may indeed be normal. Because of this, I've generally NOT tightened the lower bolt too much because I didn't want the casing of the alternator to warp and cause problems when the armature rotates. But, between the lower and upper mounting bolts, it seems fine all these years.
