Exhaust- resonator or not?

Post by SpiderGirl »

Hi guys! I’m restoring a ‘79 2000, need to do some work on the exhaust and wondered about replacing the rusted out resonator vs deleting it. How will the exhaust note sound without it? I know the resonator will take out some of the high frequency waves the muffler won’t, so I’m thinking it might sound a bit on the tinny side without it. Thoughts?

Probably better to put in a free flow Catalytic converter and a new Resonator, they make a really nice sound.

I have an 83 Pininfarina with stock exhaust except for a "test pipe" that replaces the converter and ends with a ANSA performance muffler.

The sound is "throaty" but not overly loud and the twin chrome pipes look great. Installed them myself when I had to replace the center muffler...overall easy job to do in your garage.
