Crankshaft - I had to double check this but yes the Pinin Spiders (type DS) had a faster spinning crank shaft. A Fiat Shaft will not work. Pinin's rated at a top speed of 180km/h while the '79-82 fuel injected Fiats (type CSO) were rated at 175km per hour. And in european literature boost 3 extra horsepower at 105hp. Not a big deal but a slight improvement without making the engineers nuts. American specs were the same as the Euro cars it's just the American dealer brochures posted same specs as the out going Fiat spiders.
Any truth to this or just an urban legend? I copied this from pinifarinaazzura.com

Huh? What does that mean exactly? Higher rev limiter?tima01864 wrote:Crankshaft - I had to double check this but yes the Pinin Spiders (type DS) had a faster spinning crank shaft. Re: 83 pinni crankshaft
That is what I want to know. I got a good reply on a facebook page. He stated this was nonsense. The only cranckshaft that was different was the 85, Has a different crank pulley mounting bolt and a bearing is placed differently but can be retrofitted with a new pulley and flywheel.
I wondered about comment on the pininfarinaazzura site, Did not come up until the possibility I may need to replace my crankshaft, Hope i wont have to but if i do i can fit any 2L crank to my engine

Re: 83 pinni crankshaft
This makes no sense to me whatsoever. I was under the impression that the limiting factor for peak rpm in an engine is usually the valve train, less so the bottom end. Usually flywheels and clutches are lightened to allow an engine to rev up faster. Also, the efficiency factor of a crankshaft is something to the tune of 99%.

Re: 83 pinni crankshaft
Yes, it is a multivariate problem, and the higher redline very probably has absolutely nothing to do with the crankshaft, but multiple other variables. That is a flawed assumption.

Knowing Fiat's level of detail when it comes to documentation, it's probably a mistake.
it could have to do with wheel/tire sizes also.

Re: 83 pinni crankshaft
The minor changes they made to the crank would not effect the redline, I think. Certainly not the change from Nut to Bolt on the front end. Other variables are at play.
