The top hose on my 2.0L injection seemed to be a bit short, pulling the thermostat a bit and kinking the hose from the block to the stat.
So I ordered a new top hose and it is even shorter !!
Has anyone experienced this need for a longer top hose?

Re: short top hose
Any chance you could post a picture? My guess is that either you don't have the right hoses*, or the thermostat's 3 outlets are oriented wrong (in a moment of boneheaded-ness, I have done this...). Or your supplier is selling you an inappropriate hose.
* Note that the hoses for the '71-'74 setup are slightly different from the ones for '75-'85. Both setups have 4 hoses: a short one for the water pump inlet to the thermostat, a hose from the bottom of the radiator to the bottom outlet of the thermostat, a hose from the top thermostat outlet to the T-connection (passenger side) at the front top of the cylinder head, and a hose from the other side of the T-connection (driver's side) to the top of the radiator. But, there are subtle differences between the hoses for the two groups of model years, so perhaps one or more of these are the wrong ones?
Hope this helps.

+1, and the orientation of the TStat, even when positioned relatively correctly, makes a difference in hose fit. It needs to be rotated at just the right angle for the hoses to all to line up.

Re: short top hose
I have taken a few photos but cannot figure out how to attach them.
I am pretty sure the stat is correctly orientated (I have made that mistake before too!) - it all works - heats up then the stat opens and it cools down again. The top hose is pulling on the stat and kinking the short hose from the block. Also it is rubbing on the cam belt cover.
My new hose (from F.D. Ricambi here in France) is even shorter !
I feel sure that I could find a suitable longer one in a scrapyard from another vehicle but it all takes time.

Re: short top hose
hi guys, sorry for the slow response - it has been christmas here in europe
Well as I had a spare top hose, I replaced the hose from the pump to the stat with a short curved piece of top hose and this gave me the clearance I needed to prevent the top hose from touching the cambelt guard. I would attach a picture if someone will please tell me how?

Re: short top hose
Merry Christmas, and it sounds like you got things sorted. As for pictures, I believe you have to use a third party site and upload your image to that, and then post (on this forum) a link to that. Pictures require a lot more memory than text, and my understanding is that this forum's capabilities don't support pictures directly. However, the downside of a link to a third party site is that, if that site goes out of business or the link changes, you've lost your picture here on this forum.geoff wrote:hi guys, sorry for the slow response - it has been christmas here in europe

Re: short top hose
I'll be interested in learning what you find out. I've asked a couple times about how to post a picture directly on this site, but I never received an answer. Maybe it's just me!!geoff wrote:thanks for that Bryan. I see pictures posted earlier in this thread by RRoller so i know it can be done;

Re: short top hose
it seems you were correct Bryan
one must store the picture on a third party site (like dropbox) and then put the link to that location on here.

I put them up on IMGUR.com and then, in your post here, click on the "Img" button on the line right above this writing. (It will show when you are actually entering or editing a post, not when you are just reading one like now) That will put a set of [ ] [ ] sort of symbols into your text.
Then go to IMGUR, pull up a pic from the pics that you placed there, by clicking on the pic. It will come up in a large screen filling format.
Then click on the "DIRECT LINK" header to the right of the picture. It will highlight the link. Then click on "COPY" in IMGUR, next to that link, and PASTE it EXACTLY in between the [ ] X [ ] symbols here, where I have paced the "X".
When you post your fiatspider dot com post, the picture will magically appear! It is all quite modern.
Disclaimer note. I was an early promoter here of using Photobucket, and it was free and widely used by people on here for years. Then those nitwits decided to charge for their photo posting service versus using an advertising revenue model, and it pretty much collapsed. I doubt they have much happening now. IMGUR, for the moment anyway, is still free, as are others!
