Asbestos in floor mat

Post by funcar2 »

Hello: I'm the new owner of a 1979 Spider ( My first Fiat of any kind). I also just joined this group.

I started to replace my carpet under the driver side and when I pulled back the old carpet I discovered a insulted rubber pad that was breaking down. I pulled some of it out to find a fiber insulation material that made a layer of the mat.
I stopped work in fear of asbestos and then made a few phone calls to some fiat repair shops. However, no one knows or will tell me if it is indeed asbestos.

My Question: Is fiber material asbestos / And if not..what is it.?

Thanks

I just started ripping into my new 1974 Fiat Spider and had the same question. Fiber material under floor mats, is that asbestos???

I believe it is hair and jute, Common material used under home carpeting, At least it was common. https://lpflooringproducts.com/consumer ... et-padding

+1, no asbestos I am pretty sure. No reason for its application here.
