exhaust manifolds

Post by gbsailing »

Has anyone tried to use a 4407872 79-80 4-2-1 manifold on a early 78 1800 124 spider by trimming the EGR port of the end of the manifold? I was wondering if the other ports were spaced the same as the the early 78. I am looking at going to a 4-2-1 instead as the 4-1 that is on the car now. I am looking at a 4-2-1 manifold on eBay.

I have not tried this, however, it seems like Midwest-Bayless sells a modified manifold very similar to what you're describing:

If you call M-B, they might be willing to share how they did the modifications and if there are any issues.

There is NO reason to modify the 79-80 stock manifold. Just don't use the EGR port. Simply unscrew the tube from the bottom of the manifold and plug that hole with an oil drain plug. Then simply don't use the EGR system on the intake side.

Or buy and header.
