Greetings!
I'm here as I don't have a fiat Spider but I'm looking for one! I currently have a 1984 Porsche 944 that is in fantastic, low milage condition. Love this car... but it doesn't scratch that itch like the cars I loved to toss around like Triumphs, Fiats, or Alfas. There's something to say for light weight cars English and Italian cars that ooze personality that one does not find in the Teutonic flavored cars. Hence, I'm on a quest for Spider.

Jasper, I agree: If you want Teutonic efficiency, buy a German car. If you want life to keep you guessing, buy an Italian roadster. To each his own.

I learned all about that feeling of uncertainty every time one gets into a car and turns the key. A '69 Triumph GT6 meted out those lessons like a firm, but loving, teacher. Now that is a car I wish I had never, ever sold...

I have a 1438 cc with no hood bumps - my personal favorite and have owned two, one when in college in 1973 and one now and one FI which was reliable but I wanted to go back to somewhat old school.
I have put in electronic ignition, new real Weber, gear reduction starter and relays for the starter and headlights. The car starts first time (after two pumps of gas) and is nicely reliable. I have done tons of other things to the suspension, engine, tranny but they needed it. I bought a new radio for it but never use it - I have not put the removable head unit on radio - the engine is fun to listen to. Have not had the top up in the three years or so that I have owned it.
Also having low top speed keeps me out of real trouble. I have taken mine to 95 mph and that is pretty high rpm's when passing an old Mercedes 230SL that just did not want to go that fast (I am certain they were faster but they did not want to go that fast at that time).
As always, buy one that someone else has fixed up - will cost you less in the long run if that person knew what they were doing.
and I love the dual Fiamm air horns. And rust is not our friend.
