Re: Rear End Wobble?
I am shocked that this common and serious of a driveability problem would persist through years of the design. That may strike some as funny (it sure does me ) but seriously..... If you can't easily mount a wheel without it being 50 thou eccentric, it seems to me there is something quite wrong. It is a wtf moment with these cars. That being said, let's try the "pre-adjustment" approach and see what we get. I still think we should dial indicate the actual mounting bolts while in the hub and look for eccentricity. That is kind of the final comment on it; if the wheels themselves have been tested true, isn't it? It is the hub threaded holes that rule the roost in this instance, not the hub circumference. And we have already verified by dial that there is basically no vertical wobble in the mounting face of the hub.

Centering rings will just not work on the rear axle. I have to wonder if any owners put a dial on the rim?

An update on this one, I replaced all four wheels with a set of 15" EXIP rims, 195/60H 15. The 71 4:0 axle likes them, Odometer is correct matching the GPS and the odometer dial remains steady. Feel a little vibration but may be a slight misalignment.

That's good to hear. I did run a fixed pointer on mine and the 13 inch steel rims are within a few thousandths horizontally and vertically measured at the bead seat which was a pleasant surprise and could have been more due to paint than an out of round condition since it was measured from the outside instead of from the inside with the bare rims mounted on the axle.
One thing that also can get you on seldom driven vehicles is flat spotting of the tires which may or may not true up once you get them warmed up.

Good point, and they become more compliant as they warm, helping if they are a little out of round.

I think the Cromadoros took a beating in their 113,000 miles of service.
