Just wanted to say Hello on this Intro page. I just bought a very nice 1973 124 and will be visiting the site often. I have been through a number of forums and will be posting as I have a little problem already. My 32/36 DFAV has a flooding issue when the car gets hot, it's happened a couple times, but not every time... ( it does have an electric choke, so should really be a DFEB from what I have read ) It gurgles and the intakes fill with gas. I think the first thing I will check is the floats. More on the forum when I figure out exactly which one/ where to post. I haven't seen anything on that specific problem in my searches so far.
Anyway, cheers and looking forward to learning new tricks for my new addition.

Welcome to the forum.
Your problem isn't all that common on the 32/36 model carbs. Might I ask if you're running a mechanical fuel pump or an electric? I ask as most 32/36 models do not have a return line and the mechanical pump over fills the carb. Weber removed the return lines to help re-enforce that everyone should be using electric fuel pumps.
Hope that little bit help. Other than that enjoy a great car with lots of cool factor!

Bernie, your car is beautiful, I'll put a pic in when I figure out how to do it.
Matt, I do have a electric fuel pump, with a redline regulator, the guy I bought it from said he was having that issue and his mechanic cranked it down to 3lbs as it was much higher than that. Now, my carb does have a return line. In reading one of the forums I have a few things for me to try. 1) check the return line to make sure it's working 2) double check the pressure 3) check the floats. I'll put a pic of that up too when I figure it out. I have a diagram of a 32/36 DFAV and to be honest, the intake and return lines look different than what I have. I need to do more research on that......
Thanks for the replies and I hope to keep on the topic till I get it dialed in.
Cheers

Low pressure regulators are notorious for not working well. Just get a proper 3-4.5 psi electric fuel pump (they always have a range they're never marked as "3.5psi and no more no less" ). They're very available and very cheap. This eliminates the need for the regulator and an extra bit to cause problems.

Re: New guy on the block, West side Los Angeles
Matt, last week I did all that was on the list to check. All seemed good, I didn't really find anything. I took the needle valve out to make sure it was clean, and I was happy to see it was a brass one, I did adjust the floats a bit, I just had to do something since I had the top off. I just idled it for a while till it got warm, and kept looking to see if I could see anything. Now, after it was warmed up, I would turn the engine off and watch it. Unfortunately I would see a little gas drip into the secondary venturi. I scratched my head and left it overnight to play with it again in the morning. So in the AM I warmed it up and took it out for a drive, I would red line it, then stop and let it idle, just kind of taking it through some paces. It ran fine, and idled fine, took it back home, left it running, popped the air filter off, all looked good, no filling up in the venturi's, then turned it off and again no overflow or draining into the venturi's at all, not even a drop.
It's been raining here, so I haven't taken it out again, but feel more comfortable about driving it. I don't know why it was flooding and gurgling, and not exactly sure why it's not now. SO the only things I really did was adjust the floats and clean out a bit of 'debris' in the float bowl. I'll get it back on the road soon and keep a close eye on it to see if this is and intermittent bug or I got lucky and 'unstuck' something when I was fussing around with it. I'll let you know, and thank you for your interest and help on this one.

Re: New guy on the block, West side Los Angeles
I took a nice ride yesterday for about 30 minutes along the beach post carburetor fiddling. Still chilly outside but got the car good and warm, numerous stop and goes, slow driving to watch the surf, fast driving on some stretches. No issues, ran great and on return I kept it running and popped the air cleaner off to take a look at the barrels, all good, then turned it off and kept looking. No gas overflow, no dripping into the venturi's.
So right now it seems to be back to normal..... I'll update this if anything changes. Again, the only change I made was adjusting the floats to close a bit sooner as the bowl fills.
