Power distribution on my 1982 Fiat spider

Post by Fixinitfiatstyle »

Hello all, I'm a new member but have been going to this site for years.

As I was sitting in the Fiat letting it warm up I turned on my lights and started to drive off. As soon as I started the heater headlights radio and wiper motor all stopped working.

Come to find out my alternator went bad. So I replaced that but my problem persists. So I start digging through my electrical diagram and the bundled mess of wires to try to find what's wrong. Eventually, using an ohmmeter I realized that the headlight switch was also bad. So I replaced that and my problem persists.

I was thinking it could possibly be a problem with the inline fuse between my cigar lighter and headlight switch. But after reading a bit online It seems like that may only be on the older models. If it is in my model I could use some help finding it.

Thanks to anyone willing to help

The black wire on the headlight switch is always hot and if I jump all the 4 wires together everything works again.

Final update for today
I jiggled around the wires that go to the high beam switch and after doing so my headlights work but my parking lights heater and wipers still do not.

I think it may be a loose connection or bad switch. Anyone know how to get into that switch to test it?

Are you saying you have power on fuse 1 but not fuse 2 when the ignition switch is turned to the "start or run" positions ??

If you are, have you checked for power going into the ignition switch on the brown wire and the black wire at the 6 cavity ignition switch connector??
