Veglia gauge readings

Post by ace124 »

Didn't know how else to subject this post but I have made a couple of observations that Id like to compare with others.
1. Engine off: Oil pressure gauge reads 0.
Reds/ Acc on: oil psi gauge needle moves to about 20 psi.
Engine started gauge reads normally. I.e. between 50-70 psi.
What causes it to jump to about 20 psi as soon as power is sent to it?
2. Have others noticed their oil psi gauge needle drop on left turns? I'm not generating enough g's to create oil surge, so it must be gauge related I'm thinking.
Peoples thoughts?

My oil pressure gauge reads 0 all the time. I don't keep my car where I live, but the next time I'm out there my plan of attack is to (1) check the grounds, and (2) take off the oil pressure gauge sender and clean it off - I've heard you can get buildup in the intake and cause low/no readings. I'm planning on also changing the oil while I'm out there, so while the oil filter is off, I'm going to do this. In terms of the grounds, I saw a video about a neat trick where he put spider washers (like these: https://www.exapta.com/wp-content/uploa ... washer.jpg) between the body of the car and the ground, so it dug into the metal a bit and you get a more secure ground. If neither of these things work, then I guess I'll make sure power is going to the gauge sender itself, and if it is, then I'll just replace the sender unit and hopefully that will fix it, and if not then I'll replace the gauge. The oil pressure warning light doesn't come on, and that's on a separate sensor, the oil level has been fine, and the engine hasn't exploded yet when I drove it nearly 100 miles from where I bought it, so I'm assuming the oil pressure is, for the most part, good.

I do not have that issue on my car. Works normally.

keep in mind the Veglia OP senders/gauges are notoriously wrong even when they are working.

I'm aware of the errors. My question is what's causing it to move when it gets power? Is it a resistance issue?
