I have a 1978 Spider 1800. I just upgraded the point ignition system to a Crane XR700. The Crane works great but I seem to burning up rotors like no tomorrow. I put a PS40 Crane coil in place but did not use the resistor that came with the original coil. I am ordering a new cap and rotor setup. I have read previous post on the gap between the rotor and center post of the cap. The center post sits on top of the rotor as I have to pull the rotor up to get the car to start. Is there suppose to be a gap between the rotor and the center button? If so what is that gap? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ed Clark

Re: Burning up Rotors
ED , no gap. actually the metals in both the cap and rotor can be the cause. I hope that replacing both will help. I wonder if the gap on the plugs is to much? Also is a good thing to add a ground strap from the engine to the chassis.

Racy,
Thanks for the reply. Already grounded the chassis to the trany. Seems like I am getting too much spark?
