Hello all,
This is my first post here. In June I acquired a 1978 124 Spider. This car seems to have been partially restored at some point in its life for better or worse. The main issue I've encountered is a thoroughly botched wiring harness on the interior side. It seems as though someone disconnected everything from the fuse panel, cut and spliced half of them, and haphazardly reattached the spade connectors wherever they desired. When I picked up the car, it cranked and drove fine, but did not have lights of any form, gauges, a fan, wipers, or the heater. With that being said, I've been reworking the wiring for the past few days based on the '78 diagrams found on Artigue.com/fiat
Can someone send me a picture or diagram of the Headlight Switch's connections and wire placements? I'm following white/black, green, black, brown, and light blue wires.
I'm also curious about the function of the light blue wire coming from the ignition. On my car, it only seems to provide 12v when flicked to the "starter" position. Does that sound correct?
Thanks!
Everett

Re: 1978 Headlight Switch Wiring
First we would have to know what type of ignition switch is in your car. The original factory installed switch was made by Sipea and will have that name stamped in the shiny face where the key goes in and also molded in the black material where the electrical contacts are. If the shinny metal plate where the key goes has roman numerals its most likely a Lada switch and the wire diagrams don't address that switch.
If you have a Sipea switch the connections are: Brown wire either terminal 30
Red wire 50
LT/blue INT
Black 30/1
Pink 15/54
The Sip[es ignition has 3 internal switches the brown wire feeds power to 2 of them. In the "run and start" positions the red and the Lt/blue wire have power. In the "run" position just the Lt/blue wire is powered from the brown wire. The black wire feed power to the remaining switch in the assembly. In the "start and run" positions of the ignition switch the black wire powers the pink wire. If your Lt/blue wire is only powered in the "start" position of t he ignition switch I think your switch is defective. If you have a Sipea switch email me and I might be able to assist you more. flyme194@gmail.com

Thanks! I've got the Sipea switch. I'm going to clean the contacts on it this week and report back once it's reassembled. I disassembled everything before seeing your post. Great information though. I couldn't quite decipher the diagram on it.
