Hi Everyone,
I recently acquired an old fiat that had been sitting in a garage for a few years but I’m trying to nurse her back to health. She is a 1976 Fiat 124 Spider 1800 and she lives in Connecticut now. Last week she wouldn’t even turn, so I replaced the alternator and the battery and put new spark plugs in too. Now she starts right up but dies almost immediately when I don’t apply the accelerator. Any immediate thoughts? Any help is appreciated!
Also are there any good fiat mechanics in CT that you guys recommend?

Welcome aboard. Danny O'Donnell at Fun Imported Automotive Toys (spell out the acronym!) in Vernon Connecticut is about as FIAT specialized as you can get.

Since its been sitting for a long time, I would try the simple stuff first, like replace the air and fuel filters, if you have a mechanical fuel pump you might want to take a look at that too if necessary. Once you get it going, put some Seafoam in the tank and take it out on the hwy for about 50 miles or so to get some of the junk out of the engine. Its simple, cheap and quick. Good luck.

how did you upload the photo(avatar) of your car into your profile? I'm having a devil of the time trying to do it. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

It's been a long time - so honestly I don't remember. It's been so long that that's not my Fiat any more - that's my original Fiat. One note for people - don't put the year of your car in your user name either! When you sell that one and buy a different year you feel like an idiot every time you log onto FiatSpider.com!
I think the trick is that the avatar has to be a tiny picture, so you need to get the resolution down really small. I remember it was a pain and I think that was the trick.
