Hey guys, newly registered on the forum although I've been perusing as a guest for a short while. I bought my 1978 124 about 8 years back and spent a summer freshening it up, it was pretty clean but the PO had an oil fitting failure, to an aftermarket pressure gauge and lost oil resulting in a pretty nasty rod knock. I ran it for a few weeks with some heavy oil but finally got the chance to tear it down and replace all the bearing, hone the cylinders and give it a general refresh. It had just been rebuilt before the oil failure, so it was actually very clean besides the paper thin rod bearings... as I recall cylinder 1 bearing was still there but wasted (luckily hadn't destroyed the rod or galled any hard metal) number 2 has bad, 3 was a bit better and 4 looked brand new. Anyway that was eight years back and it sat in a garage in California until last month when I was able to finally get things organized enough to get it up to my house in Oregon. Surprisingly enough it drove onto the trailer with only a new battery and pouring some gas down the carb! Since then I've been freshening it up again... a new aluminum texas heat radiator from Vicks along with a thin modern fan. Vicks 65 amp alternator. New pinion seal. Refreshed the driveshaft bearings, u joints, bushings and tons of minor misc things. I'll try to link a photo...
