Interior Wiring
Hello everyone. My 1981 spider has been having some electrical issues and I've just decided to go ahead and deal with it now. I am starting with the interior and have my dash fully out of the car. I know most of the wiring will be fine because it is well protected from the elements but I need some help fixing known issues. I have heard whispers about the "brown wire problem" at the fuse box and ways to clean up the headlights which take up four slots and never get enough power? Also I don't have electric windows (phew) but my radio has not worked since I bought the car and while I am here I might as well give myself a nice upgrade. Im not sure of the limitations of the present stereo wiring and I am going to add extra speakers in the rear so any help if you know about aftermarket stereos is well appreciated. I have heard some people unplug the door chime and use that power for the radio so that it will save the ignition switch? Thanks for the help

Re: Interior Wiring
Instead of the brown wire fix I installed a relay to the starter - and upgraded to the new starters. Great difference.
Not certain if you have relays to the headlights - if not suggest installing them. I had installed AR's headlight relays and they were simple and works great.
No idea on the radio - I am not using a mega watt blaster, though might sometime in the future. You can always talk to stereo installers.

Re: Interior Wiring
+1 on above, and add relays for the wipers......made a huge difference. I did the headlights and the wipers and also installed LEDs in the dash lights. all recommended.
cheers

Re: Interior Wiring
The relay idea sounds good to me and I do have a new gear reduction starter to install to be safe. I will get a buddy of mine to help me out with the stereo since he has done some to his cars. Thanks a bunch for the advice
