Hello from Somerset England

Post by fredsed »

Good day fellow Spider owners! I am now the proud and excited owner of 1980 2.0 injection 124 in cream. It has been imported by a local dealer of classic cars in Bristol UK from the US sunny state of California. The body work is sound and free from rust. I will probably need a new master break cylinder and an a couple of other bits but all in all a good solid car to work with. I've had a dig around on the web and found a couple of UK based parts sites but would welcome any advice as to where to shop. I have owned three 105 series Alfa Spiders before but have always loved the 124 Spider so I a happy man and looking forward to getting her back on the road for the summer :-)

Hello and Welcome! The Alfa boat-tail Spider is my dream car ... and you've had three of them?!

I think you'll find the Fiat easier to work on, and the parts are generally less expensive.

Somewhere out there is an old Road & Track? article comparing the two Spiders. Good luck with your purchase.

There is a guy somewhat close to you who is a Fiat specialist. A little south of Yoevil. His name is Peter and he is a member of this site, he just imported a Spider also. I’m sure he can give you advice on where to get what you need. Check out Fiat Coupe rescue on Facebook.

Ah that'll be great! I've got the car booked in with the mechanic I have used for years, Volksverke in Taunton. Derek looked after my 105 Alfa Spiders and my VW campers and any number of other car over the years. I've managed to source all to part I need so far from Ricambio London UK. I've been pleasantly surprised at the relatively low cost of parts and the staff at Ricambio are friendly and very helpful. As I'm new to Fiat 124 ownership I'm on a steep learning curve and will need plenty of help and advice. :-) I'm hoping to have her registered and on the road by the end of the month.
