Fuse diagram - replacement sizes

Post by architect »

Hello - is there a fuse for panel diagram out there.. for the simple folk. (Like what each fuse protects)

Also - anyone know recommended size and amp for each one? Mine are super aged.

Thanks!

The owners manual has it. If you don't have one the Mirafiori library has a lot of them (although I'm not sure about 1978).

I don't have a diagram or photo etc of the fuse panel. Looking at the wire diagram in the MIrafiori Library I think all the fuses should be 8 amp except for fuse 9. It should be 16 amps. Fuse 9 is for the horn and the engine coolant fan. Fuse 1 is closest to the steering column. I think your panel is a 10 fuse panel with Fuses 1&2 being "hot in start and run" fuses 3,4,5,6, are headlight Fuses 7&8 are other lights. Fuses 9&10 are "hot all the time" circuits. Fiat has a number of unfused circuits also.

Speaking of fuse 9 - horn and fan

I would assume they are one of these wires..
This pic is taking near the alternator.

Can anyone ID which is which? I am in the process of cleaning up the wires and I’m down to litterlay just these two.

New fan and new horn.. just not sure which wire is which... without a battery :(

Green with black dots- heavy gauge (is this rad fan positive?? ) after looking at diagrams I think it goes to #9 fuse box.

Yellow with black dots - heavy gauge (horn positive?)

Great information. Can anyone tell me if the instrument panel gauges are grounded directly to the body of the car at the instrument panel or is there a ground wire that runs to a different part of the vehicle. I have a '74 , 1800 Spider and the Mirafiori on line library covers vehicles from 1969-73.

Looking at the 1978 wire diagram the coolant fan power wire from fuse 9 is colored light blue.
Also the wire from the horn relay to the horns is solid yellow with no black dots or strips.
The horn relay is mounted on a panel below the glove box. The other wires for this relay are black/violet and violet. Violet is power from fuse 9 and black violet is the momentary ground from the horn button on the steering column.
If you locate the relay panel then identify the horn relay by the above colors you could confirm if the horn wire is solid yellow.

The Mirafiori library has a 2 page 1974 wire diagram. It is located just above the 1969-1973 diagrams in the electrical diagram list.
I don't know about the 1974 Spider but some spiders have a grounding pod located above the ignition switch behind the dash. The instrument cluster ground often is connected there.
