Automatic Transmission Cooling Lines 1979

Post by PeterCecil »

Greetings,

I am trying to fine a source or replacement solution for the cooling lines from the automatic transmission to the radiator. The braided flexible hoses have started to weep and i need to replace them. Any ideas?

I am on the same mission to replace the flex transmission lines into the engine compartment area.

http://www.fiatplus.com has refurbished ones, under

TRANS COOLER LINES,+$150. CORE
Part Number: 0004237059R
$292.25

As others are saying better to have yours refurbished locally.

Hello:
I had mine replaced by a truck parts store which used hydraulic hose and as I recall reused the threaded ends. That was several years ago and they are still good. I had to spray paint them black (had a cloth covering) as they were green.

I think having new ones made locally would be the best solution.

The advice is dead on in having the existing ones refurbished at local shop.

The shorter line was hacked on mine by previous owner and it is now just rubber hose with clamps. Also, I am converting to a fluid cooler and aluminum radiator. So i need the fitting type and size at both ends of the hoses coming from the transmission into the engine compartment. From that point I will go with a barb to hose.

Does anyone know the specs on the fittings?

From a measurement with a caliper and descriptions from a web site, I think it is Metric 60° Cone DIN 7631 M14x1.5.

Thank you everyone.
I did as most of you have suggested. I went to a truck parts place and they made new hoses with my existing hardware. Unfortunately they did not have stainless braided lines. There is a great deal of heat radiating from the exhaust down-pipe so, as a temporary remedy, I have wrapped them in replicative aluminium tape. As a remedy I am considering either wrapping the exhaust pipe (nervous about this one) and clamping an heat shield to the exhaust pipe.

Any thoughts?

Hello:
I went and looked at my hoses and they are not close to the exhaust down pipe; they run near the firewall and I have not had an issue. I took some pictures of mine tonight and can send to anyone; just email me at whhopson@southernco.com. I did put a cut hose over my retrofitted A/C hose as it is routed close to the exhaust pipe.
