Hi !
I bought my spider 2000 1981 in May this year. Tecnically all is well, but electrically...
First the ignition-switch burned, and of cause I only got hold of the russian type from a standard 124. For a while I tought everything was ok, so my wife and I went for a ride to the Westcoast of Norway. And there, in a small tunnel, it just said "pfssss" and the engine started to rumble and running really bad. Eventually it halted totally and ignition switch was burned again.
Now I have put in relais on headlamps, got new main relais, checked the AFM and AAV and a new Trottle plate sensor. I've also cleaned the ECU and replaced a condensator.
It now starts, but won't run under 2000 rpm !
Besides, there are two wires Connected to the mail relais, pin 88f, wich is not on the "artique "circute plans. One of thees wires goes directly to groud !!
I really hope sombody can give me any tips on this issue.
Many Greetings from Norway

Re: Grounded mail relais
The Lada ignition switch commonly sold for use in our vintage Spiders has the same terminal numbers, but these terminals have different functions. Whoever sold you the switch should have included an installation wiring diagram for the Spider. Here is one that a member has used on his '81:
I'd first ask the supplier of your switch to provide the proper documentation.

Re: Grounded main relais
Thanks for quick reply. I will use it when I get hold on a new ignition switch.
In the meanwhile I use a homemade one.
We had to take a small tour with the car yesterday though it's nearly ice on the roads in the shadows.
But the car won't run on idle speed!
So my main problem is that engine just dies under apx. 2000 rpm. Is there maybe a circuit in the ECU that doesn't function?
And does anyone also have the main relais directly connected to ground?

Re: Grounded mail relais
I'm not sure the idle is related to your relays.
If you could post a diagram of how you are now wired that would be helpful. I am a little confused by what you describe. Standard automotive relays don't have a pin 88f. However I would expect pin 86 to be wired to ground as that is one side of the coil that you are driving with the ignition switch. I've put ignition relays in a 1981 and, although there are a couple of different ways to do it, if you want a wiring diagram of how I did it send me a PM with your email address.

Re: Grounded mail relais
Well, thank you, I have misred: the 88f is on the Bosch 0332 514 121 relay, but its blank in the connector. The groud is welded onto the cable to pin 85 which is connected to the ECU. But I'm not shure if this is correct ?
I really like a copy of your wiring diagram !
Since I havn't got the skills yet to draw on this forum I try to refere to the "Artique-plan", ok?

Re: Grounded mail relais
I have misunderstood you. It appears that you have replaced the fuel injection double relay. You haven't taken the load off the ignition switch and put it onto relays. I sent you my wiring diagrams, but I don't think that's what you are looking for. The Artigue wiring diagram you have is the correct diagram covering the stock wiring in the car.

Re: Grounded mail relais
I'm very greatful for the diagram. I will add a couple of relays on the ignition.
And I have a grounding issue.
The wire from pin 85 on the relay to ground is for sure added by some previous owner. But why, well without the fuelpump doesn't work..
I hope by practicing my us - English will improve

Re: Grounded mail relais
I am not 100% sure of this but looking at the fuel injection wire diagram in the "Spider 2000 Electrical Diagnostic Manual 1980-1981" The duel relay would need a ground on pin 85 to function. Pin 85 of the relay is shown to connect to pin 28 of the Fuel injection computer. I when your car left the factory the duel relay pin 85 got its ground through the computer's ground. Inside the computer there are about 5 pins that make ground connections through the computers ground. I suspect a previous owner connected pin 85 directly to ground so it was not dependent on the computer being plugged in for the duel relay to operate.
