1979 Fiat Spider
Car will run for about a minute then quits. Won't restart. Seems like the carb is blocking gas from coming in? Plastic filter was cleaned, float works smooth, needle/seat operation seems smooth. The workshop manual isn't much help. Maybe a Weber specific carb rebuild guide would be better?!? The car runs beautifully smooth when it's running. Do the vendors do carb rebuild exchanges?? I really have no idea if this is even the original carb for the car. I need a good rebuild reference guide. I'm new to all this (can't you tell) I will keep looking!!!

Re: Carb issues???
More info to add here. The carb is stamped 34 DMSA 1 on the base casting so now that changes some things.

Re: Carb issues???
Well that carb is much better than what I need to run here in Ca.
Good carb from what I have read on this forum: one folks are looking for.
the other is the 32/36.
Is there a good carb guy in your area. One that has been around a while.
you can get rebuild kits

call and ask a few questions: huge help here.

Re: Carb issues???
Geospider,
I am going to take your suggestion and call the experts. I took the carb all apart again, blew out all the ports, cleaned everything with carb cleaner. Was worried that bad gas might be a problem so I was pulling of a gas can of fresh no-ethanol fuel. Ran (idled) nicely for about 2.5 minutes then same thing happened, the engine just stopped. Would not restart. The line to the tank was plugged off when I started this test and when I finished gas was starting to leak out the plugged end like pressure in the tank was trying to push it out. Noted gas cap had some pressure when I loosened it. Strange??

Re: Carb issues???
Sounds like you have a fuel tank venting problem, just like a bottle full of fluid, air has to be able to get in and displace the fluid coming out. For a quick try, run the car with the fuel cap off and see what happens.
Thanks, Rick
