AFM flap

Post by Leonard124 »

Does anyone know which 2 wires act as the switch for the fuel pump in the AFM ?

Intermittant power to fuel pump...so I am suspecting the AFM flap or the double relay.

When I move the flap in the AFM with ignition ON, sometimes the pump works and sometimes it does not.
When the pump does not run, I do not hear the relay click under the glovebox.

Thanks

Have you removed the black plastic cover from the top of the AFM?? I like to remove it and inspect the fuel pump switch contacts and the rest of the workings.

No...wanted to see which contacts they were without removing the lid.

Was able to figure out the contacts with the use of an old wiring diagram I have.
I did this at the combination relay.

The contacts work good...so it is not the AFM switch.

Seems the double relay is the culprit.
Not powering the fuel pump.

thanks

Open you double relay, you may have broken soldering.

I'm for opening things and looking/inspecting. For me it also helps me understand how things function.
The connectors on the relay can be swapped and then the relay will not function. So I mark the connectors and relay to be sure I replace them properly.
The small female connector on the heavy brown wire sometimes becomes intermittent and needs tightening.

So it seems it was the combination relay. Installed a new one and after driving 600 kms, all is good.

Now i guess I can open up the old one and see what went wrong.
