/Electric Fuel Pump Safety Switch

Has anyone installed this electric fuel pump controller? Any installation cautions or tips?

I used one a couple years back and no problems at all on my carbed 1979. I mounted it down by the spare tire because that's where the fuel pump was located. I wish I could remember what I did to wire it though. I think I did take the time to wire it to the back of the tach instead of splicing into the tach signal wire.

I does work. You can hear it run for a few seconds when you turn the key on and then stop. I do that a half dozen time if I had let the car sit for any period of time.

Only thing I wish is that I would have replaced the cheap diaphragm pump with a Carter rotary vane one. I had one on my houseboat for probably 15 years and it's so much quieter. Even in the trunk I can hear the diaphragm one pulsing away when I come to a stop.

Seems like an overly complicated and expensive solution to a simple problem. Why not an inertia switch instead?

That's what I was thinking too. Simple and inexpensive.

Going with an inertia switch sounds like a good way to go. How and where is this mounted? My electric fuel pump is in the trunk. I have a 34 ADF carburetor and a Facet Electric High performance fuel pump with a King High Performance (Guy Croft approved) fuel pressure regulator.

Here is a good thread with data and pics. Ford Inertial switch, ordered new from dealer, although I bet one from a junk yard would be fine. I got the required connector at a "Pick and Pull" junkyard, from a late model Ford Explorer, it was mounted on the inside of the firewall, if I remember correctly.
