Brake Pedal Travels 1.5 Inches Before Engaging
Does anyone know if this is normal? I bled the brakes today and they stop very well. Master cylinder replaced several thousand miles in 2010, compensator in 2005, just recent rebuilt all calipers, pads. Not sure if this is a possible issue. I looked in the notes of the previous owner, and they used Synthetic Brake Fluid Dot 3 and 4, I just added non synthetic Dot 3. I heard that synthetic was not good for the old cars, yet all of the parts have been updated fairly recently. Thank you in advance!

My manual from my 1979 Spider 2000 states DOT 3.
You will find there is no magic in bleeding these brakes once you purchase a brake bleed kit. Advance Auto has them for about $35. It is a hand held unit and it draws a light vacuum at the brake end. I went through the same pain you did until purchasing one.
Good luck,
Greg
