there is a special tool that removes the clip on the backside of the handle. The tool is a flat plate with sort of a W cut out. The two fingers are flat enough to fit behind the handle and push the clip off. If you push the door panel in, you might be able to access the clip with a very thin screwdriver.
The proper tool is available for about $2 in most tool bins

Or just bend a paper clip or other stiff wire into a hook shape and loop in behind the plastic spacer, and voila. Free from most offices and home studies.

a loop is not necessary, but at least a 90° bend at the tip. like a dentist pick

reach behind the handle and hook that little clip and giver a tug. might help to know what the clip looks like first. go to the auto parts store and ask to see the little horseshoe clip for holding on window crank handles.

i always keep some spares around, cuz they like to drop on the floor, or go flying... to parts unknown.

The clip is a piece of bent wire shaped a bit like an omega that fits into two slots in the back of the handle and interacts with a valley in the splined shaft of the winder mechanism. The shoulders of the omega are the operable parts of the clip.

A small straight bladed screwdriver will also work to remove it, you need to push one ear off and then the other. If you push in the door panel a bit behind the handle you will see either the wire of the clip running across or the end of the wire poking up from either side of the handle. Push the end of the clip out of the slot in the plastic or metal of the winder handle. You may have to repeat it for the the other end of the clip.

To reinstall, put the clip back onto the winder handle and then push the handle with the clip, onto the splined shaft of the winder mechanism.

I took a paperclip, took it apart till I had a long straight wire.
Then I made a small hook at the end and I took a pair of pincers. (see picture)
Placed the small hook between the omega-formed clip and with some small force I was able to take it out in a few seconds.
No need for a special tool.

Adding it back on is easy too, you can place the clip back on the handle and with a small rubber hammer you can easily bang it back on.
