Intake Plenum Fuel Line

Post by davery »

I would like to replace the fuel hose going into the intake plenum. How does this hose attach to the fuel rail? It seems to have some sort of collar at the this end.

The fuel lines are pushed on over barbed fittings that end with a collar that holds the end of the hose to keep it from expanding under pressure. You can carefully cut the old hose off the fitting (because you will never pull it off). What you don't want to do is cut nicks into the barbed fitting when you cut off the hose. Possible leak path later. I replaced the hoses and put hose clamps on everything, as I don't know if the new hose is the same diameter as the original stuff.

Thanks for the info. You happen to have a pic of the collar with out a hose would you? I'm having a hard time visualizing what you are saying.

Here's a picture of the collar:

and here's a kit to replace all of the high pressure FI hoses:

If you're going to replace one of the high pressure hoses, then you may as well replace them all. The low pressure hoses will need replacement too, so plan on doing them after you get the high pressure ones replaced and your knuckles quit bleeding.

You can use Fuel Injection Hose Clamps too. They won't tear the rubber.

Can I use Fuel Injection Hose Clamps on both ends with a 5/16 fuel hose?

Yes, 5/16" is 7.94mm. Always tighten properly and check carefully for leaks regardless of what materials are used. Recheck regularly thereafter. I have made it a habit to open the hood after just about every drive, and take a good look around underneath. Usually with the engine still idling. Have found a couple of minor leaks, loose bits, etc. well before they were able to cause any serious trouble. We should never forget that these things are antiques. Lovable antiques! :D

Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to get the barbed end off.
