no start
no start
Hi gays it is me again i have a problem starting that i never had before the car allways startered at the first shot,last week i tryed to stared it no luck, ,yesterday try again no luck i tryed the head lights ,no lights i gigled the switch lights they came on tryed to start it started right up,this morning tryed againg i had to go thru same thing with the light switch and it stared right up.WHATS WRONG ANY BODY CAN HELP?

Did anyone add relays to headlight and starter circuit to take the amp burden off the ignition switch?

I'm thinking off the top of my head (don't have diagrams; and at work):
But principle of the relays taking amperage off of ignition switch:
Using a relay: use a hot wire from ignition switch to energize magnet in relay (very low amps needed); and relay mechanism closes the electrically separate high amp circuits (lights; starter).
I'm not sure how your relays are energized on the low amp magnet circuit side: but maybe they share the same hot lead from ignition key (probably not true; but factory ignition stuff has been changed by POs to bypass ignition problems ...... having fuel pump run regardless of AFM; my car had separate push button switch to energize starter......);
Or both magnet relay circuits share the same ground.....and that ground is bad. This would make the most sense

My father had a Fiat 600 in the early sixties.
My youngest brother, who was about 4 at the time, came up with a saying.
"lyttle car... can't start it!"
My father and a friend of his, aided by multiple drinks of "liquid lubricant" filed a notch
in one of the spare pullies on the engine, and used a rope to start it. It actually
worked.

Assuming your Spider is fuel injected... Do you have a good spare double relay? If so, swap it out with the spare to see if that resolves the "no start" problem.

When you say "jiggled the switch" is the light switch mounted in the dash and you are moving the wires?? I am not clear as to what you are moving.gigled the switch lights they came on tryed to start it started right up
On a 1981 Spider with an original Sipea ignition switch installed power for the ignition does not pass through the light switch. Does the shinny metal on the front of the ignition switch have the brand name "Sipea" stamped into it, or does it have Roman Numerals stamped into it.
When you say "the lights came on" are you talking about the red warning lights like the battery warning and oil pressure or are you talking about the headlights??
When you say "does not start" does the engine turn over but not start or does it not even crank or turn over?

sorry guys i was out commission for couple day do to the flu,yes the ignition switch it is a sipea and when i giggle the head light switch the head lights they come on.Yesterday i stared and went for a ride with no problem,today the car starts but wont stay on and some times back fires from engine compartment ,the relay on the head lights was head on last year and until now never had a problem,the engine all ways stared and run beautiful (until now)

Are you sure the hose between the air filter and the throttle plenum is on nice and tight. Any air leaks before the throttle could cause similar symptoms

have you looked at the connector for the coolant temperature sensor in the coolant "T" ??

Finally, I can shed some light on an issue as I had the same problem.
What I figured out: turn the key, and when it doesn't start, squeeze the rubber sleeve on the back of the ignition switch.
You'll get flickering power because I found that the white wires from the ignition switch weren't connecting all the time. And yes, even if the car has started and has been driving, it'll shut off...
Quick fix... I used a zip tie at the exact angle to hold the wires, just right, to get it going.
Then I bought a new switch and voila, it drives no problem.

thank you guys for all your help i resolved the problem by eliminate the all harness and restored to the original wiring problem resolved.
