1980 Fiat 2000

Post by DesertFox »

I am new here. I inherited a 1980 Spider that has sat since 1990. I have a few questions. What is the tire size? It is rotted off. When I started the car it just clicked. What could that be? Thanks for any inquiries!

26 years is a long time to sit. Is the engine seized? Take the spark plugs out, and see if you can turn the engine over with a socket on the front of the crankshaft.

You will likely have to clean out the fuel system and replace any rubber hose. A new fuel tank may not be much more that what a professional cleaning will cost.
Is it carbureted or injected? If injected likely the injectors are stuck.

Original tire size is 165R13, but a common upgrade is 185/70R-13. If it has 14" wheels then the original size was 185/60-14.

The battery is bad, and was under recall too. It is carburetated. How do you post pictures?

Step one would be to put a new battery in it. Step 2 would be to drain the fuel tank and put new fuel in then give it a try. You might get lucky.

Here is a thread on how to post pictures directly to the forum:

And here is another picture-posting thread:

This short instruction covers how to resize pictures so that they don’t get cut off at the right side:

I would certainly lubricate all the cylinders with auto trans fluid before attempting to turn the engine
