OK was cleaning out some wires and cut the tach wire.
Reconnected and tach ran fine.
Turned car off ( or so I thought ) and went about taping up the old wiring.
Tried to start the car, and nothing ( It was running fine before )
Checked the coil and it was smoking hot.. obviously left key on too long..
Everything cooled down and still nothing.
Pulled tach wire off coil and it starts right up.
Could I have fried the Tach ? or could I dig into the under dash wiring and find I pulled something loose while wrapping the wires ? FWIW the wiring is typical Fiat.. a friggin nightmare hacked by a number of POs.
Tach went bad ?

What color was the Tach wire? Is it possible that you mis-wired something back together given that its a mess of wires under the dash? We are talking Fiat Spider correct? Year?

Well it worked before I wrapped the wire.. but not after.
I assume I must have "stretched" the wire and grounded it somehow. So I ran a fresh wire and that fixed it.
The wire in this Fiat is a mess..
Its amazing the car runs at all. If I ever have to go back into it I will just rewire with a universal harness. It will save me time.
