empi electric choke

Post by parkcity124 »

Mark:

I bought an empi electric choke. Rerouting the coolant line went well. But the choke element seems to work backwards. I marked the position of the end of the element when cold. Then I marked the end of the element when it's warm. Viewing the electric choke, when installed, from the back of the car looking forward, the end of the element moves counter-clockwise as it warms up (the element unwinds or expands). While the lever on the carb needs to move clockwise to open the choke. Am I crazy? 1978 Spider with stock carb (32 adfa I think). Thanks and thanks for your contributions to this site.

no you're not crazy. They make that choke to fit most Webers, so for some carbs the spring is backwards. Merely remove the spring and flip it over

Mike,
How did you reroute the water lines? And, where did you pull the 12V from? I am thinking I might do this change as well.

Thanks,
Dan

for a 12v source, use the connector that attached to the idle stop solenoid. You can either connect the water lines together or plug them off
