Dashboard Lights Not Working

Post by Nitrate »

1981. 2000. My dash lights used to work but I had to futz around with some of those wire bundles inside the upper consol. I didn't do any work on the wires, just had to push them around a bit. The fuse for the dash lights is good in fact all of the other items on letter H fuse works fine front left park light, rear right tail light, etc. only the dash lights, ideograms light, and hazard signal illuminating light ( the actual flashers work fine) do not light. I tested the rheostat by attaching an ohm meter to the two lugs on the switch and moved the knob to various positions, I'm assuming that's the correct way to test it, it had no continuity. I bypassed the rheostat but still no lights. I should mention that prior to having this problem I accidentally grounded the hazard switch while it was on and I blew that fuse. I replace that fuse, letter I, and all of those systems are working OK. Is it possible that I blew every bulb in the dash board all at once? I am a rank amature when it comes to electronics. Maybe I'm not getting power to the bypass or there is a grounding issue. How can I test if the bypass is getting power and is there a way to test for a good ground? Thanks RB

It could be that the connector is not fully pushed onto the back of the hazard switch. That will cause your issue. Try that first.
