Aftermarket radio, obviously. Doesn't work, doesn't look right, want it gone. I have a Bluetooth speaker that I use for music. What are my options? Original radio? Cool cover plate for the hole?
Also...note the oil pressure guage...it does not work. What is required to get it working?
Lastly, the switch to left of radio doesn't go to anything, although it once did according to PO. I was thinking of installing a USB port. Are the holes to left and right of radio original?

You can find aftermarket push button radios that look vintage but are digital. Not great but better looking than that. Switch on the side??? hmmmm fog lights, fuel pump, something else. Oil pressure gauge is usually the sending unit on the filter housing. Can sometimes be the gauge. but check the wiring also. My bet is on the sender or the wiring. given the radio doesn't work, im really betting on the wiring.

+1
Those switches were for optional power windows, so the fact that there is NOT one on the right side says a PO installed it for something else.

Re: What can I do about this atrocity?
I have to apologize...the original post was before my coffee kicked in. I'm surprised it was as coherent as it was...
Yes, the PO mentioned that the switch to the left was used for the fan...not sure what was going on with it, but it now works, so the switch currently goes to nothing. I haven't pulled it out, so not sure if it's physically wired to anything. Hopefully it is, so I can install the USB ports without too much trouble. I'll have to give some thought about what to do with the one on the right.
The oil pressure guage was also installed by PO, but it was never actually hooked up or anything. So that project is basically from scratch.
And I should have elaborated with the radio...it "works" in that it has power, but the antenna connection must be loose somewhere because reception is terrible. I'd just as soon yank it out and replace it with something that looks more appropriate. I like the idea of getting a modern/digital radio that at least looks correct, but I'd also be happy throwing a cover on the hole and simply using my Bluetooth speaker and phone for entertainment.

Re: What can I do about this atrocity?
I have a fan switch wired in by a PO, I just left it in after repairing the original fan system, which now works fine. If you don't need the switch position, I guess it would make sense to just leave it wired up in case it is needed.

My daughters refer to that particular model Pioneer as Ghetto Looking. Prefer the JVC HD with the mock nobs and such myself. I am a bit sorry I let my AM/FM 8-Track go with my 68 Olds. It was an old school Lear Jet unit that I bought when it was new.Fiatlanta wrote:Aftermarket radio, obviously. Doesn't work, doesn't look right, want it gone. They gave me a Sony Sirrus radio when I bought my Spider but I just can bring myself to install it.

Re: What can I do about this atrocity?
I got rid of the ugly radio on my 84 and replaced with this original "radio delete" panel from eBay. https://www.flickr.com/gp/139268650@N04/Dz297F
It looks fine to me and it just snaps right in. There are also covers available for the unused power window switches on the earlier models. (I also replaced the broken hazard switch after this pic was taken).

This is an interesting filler to put in place of the radio
