Noisey Rear Shocks

Post by Indigo124 »

Ive had my 79 spider for about 3 years. about a year ago the rear suspension started to creak every time the car rocks forward or backward, even when i sit in the car. could it be that my shock towers need rewelding? thoughts? thanks.

I had what sounds like a similar problem w/my '77, especially
in the front. I replaced all four shocks (Koni-Yellows) and she is a nice
and a quiet now.

could be the shocks, but it also could be the bushings in the rear axle links. Some of the links have replaceable bushings, others requre replacement of the link

I like KYB for street shocks, but if you're on a budget wouldn't it make sense to determine the problem before you start throwing money at it?

I'm also on a budget, so I put Gabriel shocks on my '76 and they're alot better than what I took off! It's been a few yrs. so I don't remember the price, but apx. $30 ea. rings a bell. As usual Mark has a good point. How do your shocks look? Are any of them leaking oil? Are they rusty and filthy? If you push down and let up on the fender 3 or 4 times and then let go, does the car keep bouncing, or does it stop right away? Does the rear end feel loose while driving? ( there are other reasons for a loose rear end, but shocks are one of them) If you're still unsure, I'd take the car to a shop for a second opinion.
I plan on keeping My car for a long time, so I went thru. the suspension one step at a time ( as my budget would allow) and every step made a difference. good luck

kyb's are a good general use choice. i'm putting those back on when my restore process gets to that point. had the last set for 15 years.
