Bleeding the Wilwood Upgrade Brakes

Post by RRoller123 »

There are 4 nipples on the Wilwood front brake upgrade caliper.

Does anyone know if they need to be bled in any particular order? I assume not, but thought I would check.

I have an odd Left pull issue. It is only occasional, and usually it stops after applying the brakes a few times in succession. I have all SS lines, new fluid when they were installed, Wilwood up front, new fluid then too. DOT3. No fluid leakage visible anywhere. Rotors clean and pads fine. No leaks visible along any of the lines. Brakes work well when my son pushed the brake pedal so I could loosen the wheel nuts. I suspect air in the line over on the right side (?) or the master cylinder (?)

I think I will bleed out the right side and see if it makes any difference before I do anything else. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that you only use two of the four nipples on each caliper. I will try to confirm and revert. I want to say that you use the two on the top only, which makes sense as the objective is to remove air.

I still have my Wilwoods in the box! I've been distracted by starter, radiator, and steering idler replacement.

Bingo:
Q: How do I bleed a multi-piston Caliper with the four-bleed screws?

A:

After the master cylinder has been bled, begin bleeding the calipers starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, usually the right rear and start with the upper outside nipple, then move to the upper inside nipple (never bleed the lower nipples). Repeat the process with each wheel, moving successively toward the wheel closest to the master cylinder. For best results the upper nipples should be pointing straight up because air migrates to the top of the chamber. Thanks, I should have thought to look on their web site. I think I am just too old to default to the obvious technology solutions.

By the way, do you have the rubber dust caps for the nipples? I was surprised the calipers didn't come with them. I was able to find them online - I think they came in a package of 10 or 12, which provided the 8 I needed.

I don't have them! Good idea, I will get those right away. Are they just a standard size where any cap will do?

Probably, but the Wilwood ones are inexpensive and high quality. Here are a couple of links:
