My clutch cable has a sort of washer which keeps it hooked on to the clutch pedal. The washer is worn down to barely anything, and the fork in which it fits in the pedal is a bit worn as well. The upshot is exciting moments on the road where I'm forced to learn how to shift without the clutch, and then find a safe place to fiddle around with it.

So, anyone have a solution? I don't think that washer thingie is designed to be removable, and if I could remove it, I have no idea what would make a good replacement.

Any ideas?

you need to replace both the cable and the pedal.

Thanks. I did just order new ones from Vicks Auto. I guess I'll have to learn all about the process of replacing those things in the next week or so. In the meantime, maybe some wire will hold the cable just enough.

Another question: the rubber grommet thingie right where the clutch linkage enters the transmission crumbled out. How important is that bit?

if you're referring to the boot around the clutch fork, it's pretty much a dust boot

Ok, I got a new pedal and cable installed, and stuck a dust boot on there, I'm not sure what's going on, but the adjusting nut is tightened all the way, but the clutch still isn't engaging. Kinda frustrating. Any ideas?

EDIT: It's possible the dust boot is on wrong, not sure that would matter though.

Interesting, I'll have to take a look at the pivot ball. Tomorrow, maybe. I've been upside down too long.

Ok, that's definitely the problem, took the boot off, unhooked it all, and the lever/linkage thing just wobbles freely, doesn't work the clutch. How do I get it back on?

If it wobbles up and down allot, meaning you hit metal to metal, you are correct.

The good news is you can fix it without taking the trans out, provided the pivot ball retaining spring metal isn't broken.

Remove the cable and clutch yoke return spring Sound like you already did)

Look at the pictures and you'll get the feel of how to position the yoke to nestle the pivot ball end of the yoke into position.

A good flashlight and a small dental mirror that is small enough to fit into the bell housing hole can help, but isn't mandatory.

Once you have it back on, re-attach the yoke return spring first. That helps keep it from falling off again when you re-attach the clutch cable.

Same thing happen to me yesterday. I try to use the dog leash to pull the cable and go back home but no way you can engage clutch that way. I ended with the clutch pedal in my hand and I built a bullet clutch pedal.

For those keeping score.....+1 for the owners side.
Not so fast... my brand new cable hold 5 days... The hook has to be able to twist in the pedal bracket. And mine doesn't
so I broke the cable right at the end of the fitting where the cable start. :roll:
But I have another idea with a steel angle. Pictures to come.
