My wife didn't want to ride in my car because of the gasoline smell that seemed to follow it. But all of that went away when I swapped out the fuel lines and sorted out the vapor canister; she now loves my car.

Same goes for me. Gas smell went away after I unclog God the vapor line.

I know I am beating a dead horse on this gray material issue, but I just don't understand it. I know that ethanol turns to water when setting for a while but I just can't chemically understand this. I think I am going to take it to a chemist friend to have it analyzed.

Ethanol absorbs water and holds it in suspension for a while until the alcohol evaporates to the point that it can no longer hold the water in suspension and then it starts to breakdown separating and forming a gelatinous goo that clogs everything up. The corrosion from the water builds up acids and algae starts to form. Up North we called it Dry Gas to absorb condensation in the gas tank during the winter months to prevent it from freezing in the gas lines leaving you stranded however it was just basically an alcohol mixture in pint or half pint bottles. You could view ethanol as simply gasoline with a lot of dry gas in it and when the dry gas evaporates it releases the now corrosive water it had joined to in an affinity.
