Hi to all. I recently joined your forum, just found the intro section. I had a '78 spider when I was younger. Unfortunatelly, it was stolen; they trashed first gear. Then a truck ran me down (he didn't see me down there), so I decided to part with it. Now, many years later, I would like to pick up another. If anyone knows of a nything in the NYC area (or surrondings), please, let me know.

They are there if you look closely....

Welcome to the website - a fiat shouldnt be too hard to find near NYC - check ads, maybe even Ebay - they have a lot of cars, some in the NYC, NJ, or LI area.

If you find another, watch out for those trucks! :D

I won two on ebay already; one wound up having a lot of rust and the other guy changed his mind after the auction was over. So, I'm still Spiderless.

 Hi John- I just joined too, I'm here on LI. I'm currently the owner of a '79 Spider 2000, it's definitely a fun car to drive but I'm not "handy" and the speedo cable fell off the back of the gauge so it stopped working. the original mileage is now 73,000 approx, give or take since the speedo/odo stopped working last Fall just before I put it up for the winter. If I do decide to sell it, would you like me to contact you? I love the car but my husband doesn't and it's no fun for me if he won't go out for a spin with me. I just had a new exhaust system (manifold->back) installed on it, $400 right there. There's a crack in the windshield, but it passed the inspection last year anyway. And it needs a wiper motor, but I don't take it out in the rain. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll try and make up my mind about keeping it or not, I know I'll hate myself if I do give it up!

Hi topless mama,
What color is it? Is it a carb or fuel injection model? Any rust? Where are you? I am in Bellmore. 347-564-3207.

 That's cool- doesn't matter to me how's it's spelled! I hope people just realize that I'm referring to the car being topless, not myself  The car is British Racing Green, tan interior, new tan cloth top. The seats are both good, I put sheepskin/leather seatcovers on them because I like the way they look and feel. It's a five speed, I don't know about the carb or fuel injection thing, I can find out though. Cousin who had it before me put a lot of work into it, there is some minor rust but nothing rusted thru, and it's not obvious. It is fun to drive, but I know what you mean, people do tend to not see us "down there", have to be careful here on the Island with all these SUV's! My husband is not a car buff, to him they're just transportation, and he doesn't like the "attention" the car attracts either when we take it out- it does get a lot of looks because it's so pretty. He calls it my "mid-life crisis car". I have to look for pictures I can post. We're in sunny Patchogue.

Yes, I figured you were talking about the car. It sounds nice, although, I guess on this car the color would be Italian racing green? Anyway, "I would like to see it. I live close (Bellmore) and am available during the day. My schedule changes daily, so we will have to play it by ear. Actually, are you available this weekend (mornings 'til 1pm)?

Possibly Saturday morning, Sunday is Mother's Day so that's a definite no-go. Are you able to come out to Patchogue? Suffolk County, Bellmore's in Nassau, isn't it? I'm not sure how far. I could drive it to meet you somewhere, but my husband would have to follow and I'm not sure what his plans are for Saturday.
Yeah, Italian green would be a better description. The original color was blue, you can barely see it when you open the flap on the gas cap.

You're about 45 minutes east of me. It's not a big deal, I can drive it. Almost forgot about Mother's Day; maybe we better postpone it. Are you available during the week (daytime)?

sorry, nick, we were in Poughkeepsie all day picking up youngest son from college. Yeah, maybe we'd better reschedule, I have to shop tomorrow for groceries for Mother's Day brunch, etc etc, busy day. I think it's supposed to rain too, not a good weekend for driving the little car.
I really don't want to take a day off this week, I took today off to go upstate. I get home from work at 4:00pm. Otherwise, next weekend will have to do it? Let me know...

Hi nickc !

I just joined this site this month too. Sounds like you are trying to get "Spider-ed" again. Mine has been stashed away in the back corner of my workshop for some years. I have a green spider w/tan interior. I started work on it some years ago. Went through and upgraded the suspension, installed a new soft top. Then a new job came along and worked stopped. Trying to get started again if work will leave me alone ! Hope you find a car soon. These cars need to be in the hands of those who will care for them. - Jim DeShon in the S.California desert.
