Question about amount of oil in cam towers

With my engine cold how much oil should be in my cam towers? I see little puddles in all the recessed areas, but nothing more than that.

soak it up put it together and run it again then remove them again to see the same puddles

The oil fills the small chambers until it runs over the low cast walls and runs back down through the drain holes to the sump. So relatively small puddles is the norm when you pull the covers off.

Does the oil (some of the oil that is) also drain down and around the valve buckets? It looks to me like a small amount would be able to seep around the edges and find it's way into the intake/exhaust chambers within the head.

yes it lubes the moving parts then drains down

I did not fully understand how the lubrication system worked until tonight. I just watched a couple of Eric the Car Guy's videos, so now I have a much better understanding of what's going on.
