completion issues on 82 FI spider
I'm trying to button up some final things on my 82 FI Spider but I need some assistance. My Spider is the only one I have ever driven and Im not sure what's normal. It is so much fun to drive. 1. It runs great under acceleration but at idle it seems to miss a little I keep the idle at 900rpm to keep it from stumbling. The plugs are clean and the wires look good with good spark to all. Just not sure where to start other than replace the wires and cap/rotor. Could it be dirty injectors? ( i did clean them in ultrasound machine and gas under pressure) 2. I am getting a shutter when I engage the clutch in 1st gear. It doesnt happen all the time. Im thinking it might be engine mounts. (Im putting those in today). I changed the engine mounts and the shutter is 75% gone. Still have a little shutter sometimes on a low rpm tAke off. Is that nornmal or is it glazing on clutch? 3.This car was never equipped with a stereo so it doesn't have an antenna. I would like to do a power one. Which one should I buy and where does it go? What changes do i need to make?

Re: completion issues on 82 FI spider
Stumble at idle... I found a couple of things with my FI.
make sure that no un metered air is getting to the intake. All hoses are in good shape and connections tight. I had a pooched brake servo that was letting in air but I also had a harder brake application.( not to mention the air noise under the dash.
The other thing I found was in the AFM itself. There is an arm with a couple of pins on the end that travel along a strip as you accelerate.
On mine(strip) I had a fair bit of wear on the first section. This I thought gave me a stumble at idle and also at the start of acceleration. I ended up opening the AFM with a box cutter and box of band aids and with some fiddling moved the pins about .5-1 mm to a cleaner section of the strip. All is good now.

Vacuum leaks would be the first culprit to resolve. Check your charcoal canister to see if it has a open port on the top or if it has a mushroom looking cap on the top. Mine was missing and I've been working on it. The Aux Air Valve is another possibility. I took starting fluid to all the intake joints and vacuum lines to see if I can find anything. I'm still suspicious I've missed something.

Re: completion issues on 82 FI spider
It was recommended to try a plumber's propane torch (unlit of course ) at the various joints, and a change in idle speed would be noticed if there were a leak. (turn it off and on, don't leave the gas flowing ) I tried doing this but found no leak, although I can't say there was one there.... It almost makes me want to create a small leak to see if this method works well.

A vacuum leak sounds like it would make the most sense it runs so nice and 1500rpm and above. My canister is a large open hole ontop of it. I have pulled its vacuum line and plugged it with no change. Does anyone sell the cap for the canister? I should also rechareg the canister. I saw somewhere about going to a pet store for the charcoal

I turned a small plug out of black delrin to go into the open hole in the top of the charcoal canister. I drilled a .063 hole through it, as you need to pull a small amount of air through it, but not enough to cause idle problems. I think that's too big. I'm going to do another one with an 0.031 diameter hole.

If i completely block the vacuum line it makes no difference. It also seems to make no difference if i leave the vacuum line open. Yet it has a good vacuum on the hose..

Can i disconnect/ plug all the vacuum lines to eliminate that as an issue? will it still run right?
