Fuel Filter on a fuel injected spider?

Post by niro884 »

Would like to replace the fuel filter on my 1980 Fuel injected spider. Where is it located? I was told near the right rear tire area kinda hidden. I checked there and dont see it. It should be a Bosch filter for the Jetronic Injection system. Anybody change one of these or know where it is?

Thanks

It is located underneath the car on the driver's side right in front of the rear wheel.

It's the cannister looking thing right in front of the fuel pump.
How far would your drive be to Dublin if you go John?

Found it! Thx. Having trouble finding a new one. Not many places stock them anymore. Any recommendations for places on the web? Thx

Any of the Fiat vendors stock them: IAP, Bruce's, Vick Auto, etc. You should also be able to pick one up in stock at your local Advance Auto store as well.

Ron, Dublin is about a 2-hour drive for me.

Replace the flex fuel line too. After 30-40 years it gets brittle - ask me how I know.

Thanks, I'll be prepared. I had a leak in the radiator repaired last week and ran new silicone hoses. Idling up to temp to get the fan to kick on i noticed surging from 800 to 1100 rpm's. Thinking I'll start by replacing the original fuel filter and go from there to diagnose the surging rpm's...

Napa carries the fuel filter PN 3161 Wix PN 33161 for the FI Spiders

Also Napa 3248, Wix 33248 is a great filter to add into the 12mm line feeding the fuel pump. Adding/installing a filter before the pump protects the pump from rusty fuel tank and dried out hose particles.

I'm not affiliated with any of the vendors who advertise on this site or those that specialize in vintage Fiat parts, but if we don't support these guys with purchases of "ordinary" service parts, they might not be around to provide the specialty parts and customer service we can only get from such sources. In my ten-year Spider ownership, two suppliers have closed their doors. Sometimes, our specialty vendors' prices are actually better than big-box or even Internet: http://www.vickauto.com/newstore/index. ... ts_id=2588

+1, my car would never have remained on the road, nor gotten back on the road, without the help specifically of AR, and also Mark Allison.

No - access from under the car - just in front of the rear wheel left hand side - filter and pump for the F.I.
