Blower Fan Help
Problem #2 for tonight. I'm replacing my blower fan on my 85 and removed the upper and lower center console 3 months ago. Unfortunately, some of my labels have fallen off. I have the fan switch connected correctly, but I'm unsure where the other end of this pigtail connects to. There is a solid red, black/blue and yellow/black wires coming from the switch. I'm pretty sure the red goes the red from the fan and the blue/black goes the black from the fan. The yellow/black from the switch must be from the hot from the fuse box. Any ideas what the color of the wire it connects to? My dash seems to be a mess of wires, as the PO installed a radio with a million wires. I really though I had this and any help would be appreciated.

Re: Blower Fan Help
to help ID the speaker wires you can use a AAA battery and touch two wires from one speaker to
each end of the batt and you will hear a thump"tapp the bat and you will hear thump thump thump
then you can lable the wire

when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Find the common wire on the switch with a multimeter. This wire is the positive. the other two are for the speed. It don't manner if you switch them, it will switch the speed only.

Re: Blower Fan Help
So I still can't find the power wire from the fuse box. I found two wires going into a single spade connection (one yellow, one brown), which I thought was the power from the fuse box. It appears not to be active and has no switched or unswitched power. Looking at the fuse diagram from an 81, it says the fan blower is the #2 fuse. I turned on the ignition and connected the connected the fan directly to fuse #2 and it came on. The #2 fuse has four wires; a lt blue/dark blue wire, a yellow/pink wire, a pink wire and a white wire. The lt blue/dark blue wire appears to go to the transmission. The yellow/pink wire does not go to the center console. I'm not sure where the pink wire and the white wire go. Is it possible the 85 fuse box is different than the 81? The 81 is the only diagram I can find. There is also two wire combined into one spade connector that has become disconnected. They are brown and brown/white. I connected these into the fuse box, thinking this might be the blower fan lead, but no luck. Any ideas?

Re: Blower Fan Help
My 80 shows power to the fan coming from Fuse B as a brown wire and changing to a yellow/black that goes to the center pin on the fan switch. The red wire goes from the switch to fan as low speed. Blue/black goes from switch to the fan as high speed. you should have a black chassis ground as a short pigtail from the fan motor. The fan switches can be a problem with these cars. so check the switch for continuity to make sure that isn't a problem.

I replaced the heater core on my 1984 and snapped a couple of photos to keep the wiring straight when I removed the console. The first picture was to remind me which wire hooked up to the yellow/black wire of the blower switch while the second was to keep the stereo wiring straight (my car still had it's original Pininfarina/Clarion stereo). The wires shown are for the speakers plus a switched power and ground. I could pull my stereo to try to find out exactly which wire was which, but before going to that effort I'd want to know that you were still struggling and that you had the same colored wires in your car.

Re: Blower Fan Help
Thanks for the pics. The PO had an aftermarket head unit and underdash AC installed, so it is a real mess. I'm a little hesitant to start cutting and removing wires. After an hour of sifting through the wire nest I finally found the brown wire to the fan. Everything works, so far. Now to re-install the dash.lglade wrote:I replaced the heater core on my 1984 and snapped a couple of photos to keep the wiring straight when I removed the console.
