The National Capital Fiat Club invites you to drive the third annual DC Fiats Catoctin Run on Sunday, August 17th.
Sunday, August 17th, The Catoctin Run gets turned on its head - DC Fiats will blast through our previous course along the petticoat of the Blue Ridge ...in reverse! You'll see our old drive in a new way, west-to-east, plus some new roads too. As before, this is a fast touring course (mostly 3rd & 4th gear) with a variety of terrain, some dramatic elevation changes, straight road as well as knots & twists. All roads are paved.
Our meeting point is the Office Depot parking lot on Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg, just off I-270. We'd like to begin gathering around 8:45 for a driver's meeting at 9:00am, with the run beginning soon after at 9:15. Gas is available one block away at the Texaco (please arrive gassed up); coffee and the like is available at the 7-11 on Gaither Road, one block in the other direction.
Leg #1 takes us away from suburbia, through the farmland of northern Montgomery County, and up Point of Rocks Road to Brunswick, MD - about an easy 50 minute drive. There we'll pause & park for photos in the Brunswick MARC train lot. After short walk up to Beans In The Belfry for coffee, bagels, etc., it's on to...
Leg #2 runs from Brunswick, along twisting roads through woods and open fields, to our venerable old meeting place at The Cozy Inn Restaraunt in Thurmont. There are plenty of surprises in this 1 hour & 15 minute route to challenge the seasoned driver. If you've done this run with us before, you might like it even better this time! Our "official ride" concludes around noon with lunch at The Cozy.
For those still hungry for twisty roads and some award wining local wine, after lunch we'll be cruising to Elk Run Vineyards in Mt. Airy (about 30 minutes). From there, another 30 minutes through more of northern MoCo's classic country roads to end at Hyattstown (Clarksburg) junction for I-270.
