TRANSMISSION CHATTER NOISE

1982 spider rebuilt 2 years ago including gearbox. Now I have a horrible chattering when in 1st 3rd and 5th ( especially in 3rd) which I can stop if I hold the gear lever forward . It definitely sounds like a cog is hitting against something that it would normally clear. Where do I start looking?

First check that gear and engine mounts are all tight.

Thanks . I will check that but noise seems to be generated in the selectors or tail end of the box somewhere

Found it! loose bottom coverplate! Perhaps an assembly oversight. Phew!

If loose enough to chatter, possible that all the gear oil has leaked out? Should check it.
