U joints without grease fittings

Post by bobplyler »

I'm getting ready to rebuild my driveshaft. I got some new ujoints and they have grease fittings on. I looked at the current ones, and they have a place for grease fittings, but they aren't there. It's just a hole. Should I just remove the new grease fittings, or fit a plug. I know they wont fit with the grease fittings on.

Here's what I did. I screwed in the nipples and greased the u joints with the driveshaft on the bench, then I found some small plugs with an allen head, removed the nipples and screwed in the plugs. You can remove the plugs and install the grease nipples again with the driveshaft in place when it's time for some maintenance again.

You probably know this but you can't run the u joints with any size grease nipple in there as they will break off when driving the car.

I don't know how critical it is to plug the hole, but I felt better going this route.

Good luck

Plug the hole as they will throw grease out as they warm up and suck dirt in when they cool if left unplugged.
