Remove brake boost check valve

Post by stuartrubin »

I'm trying to take off the check valve which goes to the brake booster (hose from intake manifold) to inspect it while trouble shooting a power brake problem. I'm having a really tough time getting it off (and i really don't want to pull the booster out).

I think it's just "stuck" after not moving for 40 years.

Anyone know what size bolt that is? I'm sure that I don't have the right size socket.

Any other tips?

Thanks

The bolt that holds the banjo fitting to the brake booster is 22mm but that is not the check valve.. The check valve is in line.. I have squirted wd40 in to the line from the intake manifold end and freed them up before..

Cheers!

Rob thanks for the size on the bolt. At the time, it seemed easier to remove the bolt to get to the whole assembly of tube, valve, clamp, etc., but it has turned out to be a challenge. It's pretty cramped in that spot and my adjustable wrench and "almost right" socket just weren't up to it.

Not always, at some point it got built into the banjo fitting. Then later they went to the plastic one with the rubber grommet.

Interesting, I've never seen a North American Spider with that setup.. Do you know what year they made the change?

Which setup?
The plastic checkvalve with grommet came around 76-77.
Before that the booster had a metal banjo connection with the above mentioned 22mm bolt. I've seen fairly early Spiders (71-72) with the check valve incorporated into the banjo. On my '70 the check valve was inline. Possibly they used whatever was on the shelf, and there is not a certain year when the metal banjo changed to one with a built-in checkvalve vs. the inline valve.
